Subject: Improper Driveway Culverts

 

 

Please be advised that Hendry County is in the process of improving drainage in the Pioneer Plantation area. Inspections of individual residential driveway culverts has revealed improper structures at many sites. Examples are filled in driveways, dredge boat pipe, plastic pipe and improper sized pipes. These are not allowed in the roadway/drainage easements and are considered illegal obstructions. They must be removed.

At the very minimum, specifications for a driveway culvert will be 18" in diameter x 30' long, asphalt coated corrugated metal pipe. In some areas a larger culvert may be needed. Required specifications can be obtained from the General Road Superintendent by calling the Engineering Department at 863-675-5222.
